Black Falcon SLS AMG GT3 Commemorates 40 Years of AMG at Spa-Francorchamps

posted by on 26 July 2011 in Motorsport News

Like father, like son. It applies even to racing beautiful Mercedes-Benzes at the 24 Hours of Spa. Hans Heyer and his son Kenneth are proof of that. On the 40th anniversary of Hans and his teammate Clemens Schickentanz achieving a class victory and overall second place at the race in a race-modified 300 SEL 6.8 AMG–that iconic red car that kicked off the AMG story–his son Kenneth will race with Black Falcon racing in an SLS AMG GT3 modified to look just like pop’s sedan.

Says Hans: “40 years after our class victory and second overall place, I think it is a great idea to enter the Spa-Francorchamps race with the SLS AMG GT3 in the same look as “my” 300 SEL 6.8 AMG. Naturally I wish the Black Falcon team and my son Kenneth every success – and will be delighted if he wins at least second place!”

Really, we’d be content if this were just a photo op for the two cars, which look stunning together. But it’s especially cool that on this anniversary, a second Heyer will get a chance to field a car from the same brand as his father in this same race. He’ll have the help of a team of three drivers as opposed to his father’s two, which dad surely teases him about. Kids these days, you know?

In addition to the Black Falcon team, six other SLS AMGs will run the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps race. We’re sure they are very nice, but we know who we’re cheering for.
