Ducati 848 Streetfighter coming in 2012

posted by on 14 September 2011 in Motorcycle News

Despite originating from a bunch of crazy riders modifying their crashed bikes, some may find riding a naked sport bike the only way to ride, a few of us at km included. And while there are many great options out there in this style, many prefer Ducati’s 1098 Streetfighter due to it’s lack of detuning from the normal super bike. But there was a drawback to giving the Streetfighter everything you can get with fairings, and that was a rather visceral ride, which some found tough to handle.

But those days are numbered, because Ducati has announced that there will be a Streetfighter version of its smaller 848 very soon. Just by nature of being the smaller engine should make the bike more manageable, but Ducati took it one step further. Rather than just give you the engine verbatim from the 848 like in the 1098, Ducati has built a whole new motor, making a Testastretta 11° version. If this sounds familiar to you, it should, because Ducati did the same thing with the 1098 engine for the Multistrada and Diavel, giving that engine 11 degrees of valve overlap. And if we get the same result from this technology in the smaller engine, we know it will be extremely smooth, and tons of fun to ride.

Pricing details haven’t been released yet, but we know it will come in January, and will be available in three colors, red, yellow, and matte black.
