Porsche Design and Adidas Sign New Contract

posted by on 10 February 2012 in Lifestyle and Gear News

Porsche and Adidas are two of Germany’s most recognizable brands among sports-minded enthusiasts. The two have worked together for years, with Adidas producing shoes and athletic apparel to the design and specifications of the Porsche Design Group, the consumer goods design company founded by F.A. Porsche, designer of the first 911 and grandson of the great Ferdinand Porsche.

The new agreement, signed this week, will expand on the two companies’ relationship by creating a new label, “adidas Originals by Porsche Design.” The new lineup will be aimed at a younger buyer than the upscale Porsche Design Sport collection, with an emphasis on street-wearable items. As a result, the new line will be available through Adidas stores and partner stores throughout the world, rather than the much smaller and more exclusive network of Porsche Design stores, which numbers about 250 worldwide.

As Porsche Design sees it, the new product line “is characterized by authentic sportswear playing off the heritage and myth of the Porsche sports cars and their related races.”

Adidas’s brand manager, Erich Stamminger, stated, “We are very excited about this next step in our collaboration with the Porsche Design Group and highly value the joined commitment of our two brands to create both engineered luxury sportswear products as well as adidas Originals by Porsche Design articles.”
