New 911 Inspires Two New Bikes From Porsche Design

posted by on 17 April 2012 in Lifestyle and Gear News

It’s no coincidence Porsche Design draws much of its inspiration from the sports cars that bear the family name. For the spring 2012 collection, the spirit of the all-new Porsche 911 has been invoked to create a pair of fast road bikes.

The lightweight (19.8 pounds) Porsche Bike RS utilizes carbon fiber extensively, including for the forks, frame, seat post and handle bars. A 20-speed Shimano gear set gets things moving, while a hydraulic disc brake system from Magura ensures responsive stopping. The RS is finished in black with Electric Blue accents.

The Porsche Bike S comes in just a few pounds heavier at 24.2 pounds, making use of hydro-formed aluminum for the frame and carbon fiber for the forks. A Shimano 11-speed Alfine internal hub gear system delivers power to the rear wheel via belt drive for silent operation. The Bike S is finished in Carrera white.

The new bikes are available at select Porsche dealerships or online at the Porsche Design website.
