Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante is Superleggera for the Sun
posted by Stuart Fowle on 17 November 2010 in 2010 L.A. Auto Show Automotive News
Some purists will balk at the idea of the Gallardo Superleggera’s lightweight components being used on a model with the compromises of a convertible, but we’d bet ever dollar hidden in the kilometer breakroom couch that Lamborghini will have absolutely no problem selling each and every Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante it builds.
Like the Superleggera, the Performante makes extensive use of CFRP, or Carbon FIber Reinforced Plastic, to shed a bunch of weight in the name of performance. The total drop adds up to 143 pounds, meaning this is a 3274-pound Spyder. That’s pretty good here in 2010. The direct-injection 5.2-liter V10 produces 570 horsepower and pulling along fewer pounds, rockets the car to 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 201 mph.
Other than the lack of a top, the Performante looks basically the same as a Superleggera, with special body enhancements at all edges and a special set of wheels just for this model. Inside, Alcantara dominates. But our favorite touch? That has to be the tri-colore markings along the engine cover. Only the Italians.
