Last year, Lamborghini showed an amazing ultra-lightweight, ultra-powerful concept pointing toward the future of the brand. It seems the future is now, at least for 20 lucky rich people, because CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed at the Frankfurt show today that the Sesto Elemento will head to production. “The excellent feedback and the numerous requests we’ve had from our customers have really convinced us to embark on the challenge of producing a vehicle with unique characteristics. We are proud that what a year ago was just a ‘technology demonstrator’ of future super sports cars, even though in working order, will become a small series reality. Only 20 units of the new Sesto Elemento super sports car will be produced, and will be destined only for track use. We’re planning to deliver the first cars at the beginning of 2013.”
The boss man said all of the important stuff above, but we’ll just remind you that the car weighs just 2200 pounds, is made almost totally of carbon fiber and, in concept form at least, barely has a real interior. We’ll see how much that changes by 2013, but hopefully the staggering 0-62 mph time of just 2.5 seconds remains. Expect cost to be somewhere in the million-and-a-half range.
