Ducati Releases Full Details of 848 EVO
Ducatis are known for power, and the venerable 848 superbike is about to get more. For 2011, the Italian bike builder will introduce a hopped-up version, christened 848 EVO, that will be the most powerful middleweight bike on the market.
Based on the best-selling 848 model, the EVO will get new cylinder heads, pistons, throttle bodies and cams to take power frm 134 hp to a full-on 140 hp at 10,500 rpm. This variation of the Testastretta engine will be identified by its black-finished engine case.
Other hardware upgrades include the braking system, which gets Brembo Monobloc calipers at the front and rear. A cross-mounted steering damper has been added for better steering control, and Pirelli Supercorsa SP high=performance tires keep the 369-pound bike attached to the Earth.
The 848 EVO will replace the standard 848 in the 2011 Ducati lineup when it arrives in late August. A special "Dark" version will debut later, drenched in darkness from tip to toe. Despite the significant improvements in performance and hardware, the EVO will hold the line on pricing, matching the 2010 848's MSRP of $13,995 finished in classic Ducati Red, or a grand cheaper for the Dark edition.
