World's Highest Mileage Car, a Volvo P1800, Aims For Three Million

When Irv Gordon turned two million miles on his 1966 Volvo P1800, Volvo itself took notice and made a pretty big deal about it. But even those inside the company known for legendary longevity probably didn't think they'd also be able to celebrate another milestone at three million. We've heard that's Irv's new goal, and he hopes to get there by his 73rd birthday, which is coming up in three years. Today's his 70th birthday, and we wish him a happy one filled with, if he's going to meet his goal, a good number of miles driven.

Irv's P1800 is currently sitting at 2.8 million miles, meaning he'll need to average just over 180 miles per day for the next three years. That seems insane, but keep in mind how many miles he's already driven. Back in 1966 when the car was new, Irv managed 1500 miles in just the first two days. In 1998, with 1.69 million miles, Irv entered the Guinness Book of World Records and has been beating himself ever since. It seems unlikely that any one else will ever pass him, but yet he soldiers on with another milestone in his sights. We wish Irv the best of luck.
