Porsche Will Develop the 918 Spyder for Production

When Porsche pulled the covers off its stunning 918 Spyder concept just prior to the official start of this year's Geneva Motor Show in March, the automotive world was in shock. So beautiful, so sporty, and so now with its plug-in hybrid powertrain.

For months the company has stood by its official stance that no commitment has been made for a production version of the 918 Spyder. But as of this morning, that position has changed. In a meeting earlier today, Porsche's board of management approved the development of the 918 for "limited production."

The final spec has not been determined, but the concept boasted a highly efficient mid-engine hybrid powerplant that is said to have the power of a V8 engine with efficiency of a small car. Further details, as Porsche states, will be disclosed in the coming months.
