Mini Puts Its Clubman on a Leash at LA Auto Show
Stuart Fowle
Mini's booth at Los Angeles didn't have a world premiere to draw people in, but it wouldn't be in Mini's style to deliver a simple floor plan of production models on display. There were two concept cars, but not new ones. First shown at Frankfurt, the Coupe and Roadster twins dominated much of the LA stand in their US debut. As you probably know, those models have been green-lit for production and should arrive to dealers in a few years.
But then there was this other corner of the Mini stand where the company decided to have a little fun with one of the current production models, the Clubman S. Playing off of Mini's small-yet-ferocious personality, this Clubman was dressed up like a pitbull with a spiked collar wrapped around its front end and a giant leash linked up and floating above the car. Around the car, the words "Caution: Please do not feed the Mini" were written on the floor. Mini might be a month late for Halloween, but this was still one of the more entertaining displays at LA. Our full gallery from day one at the show is off to the right.
