Mercedes-Benz Already Reaches 300,000 Unit Milestone For New E-Class
The all-new 2010 E-class sedan went on sale overseas in March of last year. With pricing in the States of $50,000 and up in a down economy, it's quite an accomplishment that the company has already cranked out 300,000 examples. That's especially true when one considers that the wagon and convertible variants just recently went on sale. However, the sedan is obviously the volume leader and Mercedes reports that it represents 230,000 of the vehicles sold so far, with 28,000 wagons out in the world and the remainder split between hardtop and softtop two-doors.
Along with the impressive speed of sales, the E-class has also seized an amazing chunk of market share, winning over 50 percent of German shoppers, 40 percent of other European mid-size luxury buyers, and 30 percent of Yanks. We Americans have snatched up the most coupes, claiming 20 percent of them so far. With just a strong start and the fact that coupes and convertibles are no longer branded under the CLK name, this new E should have no trouble beating the 1.6 million previous-generation cars sold.
