Lotus Kinda Sorta Maybe Confirms Esprit for 2010 Paris Motor Show

The Lotus Esprit carried on from its debut in 1975 on into the middle of the last decade, making it the longest-running nameplate the company has ever sold. It'd be a shame to let it simply die, we think, and Lotus may indeed be reviving it this fall when the Paris Motor Show kicks off. A new teaser highlights many of the major news events of 1975--Watergate verdicts, Margaret Thatcher, Jaws, and the birth of future soccer great David Beckham--and includes among them the Paris debut of the Esprit. The teaser goes on to ask if all of these things changed the world, at least a little bit. James Bond drove an Esprit, so we're not going to argue that it wasn't significant.

That brings us to today. Lotus' teaser text says that "Something breathtaking will happen once again. Once more in Paris. Once more at the Motor Show." So does that mean a new Esprit? The text continues, "Perhaps a new Esprit? Perhaps not. Or perhaps even more?"

We've heard rumors that imply the "even more" part of that quote, as it sounds like the company will actually debut five different concepts and production models. We're guessing one will be a topless Evora, and a hybrid or electric car or two will surely be in the mix. That still leaves a few open spots in the booth, and we think it'd be pretty sad if an Esprit doesn't fill at least one of them.
