LA Auto Show: 2010 Infiniti G37 Sedan Facelift

With the way Infiniti keeps updating the G with new engines, new bodystyles, and new features each year, it's hard to believe that it's already due for a mid-cycle refresh. But the game in its class is one-upsmanship and, since the BMW 3-series was facelifted last winter, it must be the Infiniti's turn. The 2010 redesign is a pretty good one, too.

The new G37's outer changes are fairly minimal--from many angles, its indistinguishable from the car currently sitting on dealer lots. That isn't the case up front, however. Its face gets a new grille that's more in line with the just-debuted M sedan and a new fascia that's more wedge-shaped, with the bottom sticking forward the most. The headlights as well are new, with a different, more prominent projector bulb design and black plastic surrounds. There are new colors as well, bur we wish Infiniti would add the coupe's lovely 19-inch wheels as a sport package option.

Inside, the changes are even more subtle. The purple-and-white gauge cluster loses its red elements on the needles and center information display, and new aluminum trim is available. The navigation gets new features and new Spanish-speaking capability, and the system can now stream Bluetooth Audio. Perhaps the coolest feature, though, is the new Advanced Climate Control System that automatically detects exhaust fumes sneaking in and shuts down outside air vents while a new Grape Polyphenol Filter removes airborne allergens. The new G goes on sale in January.
