2010 Volvo XC60 Named International Truck of the Year
Stuart Fowle
Each year a panel of journalists from the US and Canada gather together and decide on an International Truck of the Year Award in addition to International Car of the Year. Where this award squeezes between North American Truck of the Year and World Truck of the Year, we aren't quite sure. Nevertheless, the ITOTY award was announced yesterday at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and it went to the Volvo XC60, which debuted early in 2009 as a 2010 model and therefore qualified for the 2010 award.
Volvo was quite excited about both the award and the good sales year 2009 has become. "This ties a very pretty bow around what's been a truly amazing year for Volvo," said Doug Speck, Volvo NA's CEO. "The XC60 has not only been recognized by the media but it's been extremely well received by our customers." In November, it was Volvo's top seller, and we've been very impressed with our own long-term test car thus far. This isn't the first time the XC60 has won an award--in fact, it has won 20 awards now since sales began in Europe in late 2008, thanks to a strong design, good dynamics, and technology like City Safety, the system that stops the XC60 in slow-moving traffic to avoid front-end collisions.
