2010 Geneva Show: Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera
Sure, Lamborghini is getting a bit formulaic in its promise to deliver a new model every single year. But can you really criticize a brand making such beautiful cars? This latest debut represents a revival of the Superleggera nameplate, plus some subtle enhancements that should keep Lamborghini enthusiasts coming back for more. Compared to the LP560-4, the Superleggera weighs about 154 pounds less. At 2954, that makes it the lightest road-going model in the current range.
As with any car looking to shed every possible pound, the most obvious change here is choice of materials. The 570-4 uses extensive carbon fiber both inside and out, allowing the car to drop pounds while actually becoming more fuel efficient. Along with a modest power boost (that 570 in the name indicates horsepower) the weight savings mean this latest Gallardo runs the 0-62 mph sprint in just 3.4 seconds on the way to a top speed of 202 mph. Along the way, the LP570 uses 20.5 percent less fuel than the last Superleggera.
