2010 Geneva Show: 2011 Volkswagen CrossPolo
While those of us in the United States still don't have access to any Polo, Europeans will soon have two new versions of the great-looking new hatchback to chose from. Along with the hot Polo GTI, the CrossPolo you see here will soon hit the market. This new model is essentially an Audi Allroad that spent too much time in Rick Moranis' attic. The suspension is slightly taller than other Polos, and metal skid plates and unpainted plastic lower body pieces have been added to deliver a go-anywhere sort of attitude. Inside, unique interior color combinations match the earth tones offered on the outside.
With all the cargo space freed up by dropping the rear seats, the CrossPolo can scarf up 27 cubic feet of gear, which isn't bad for something so tiny. And under the hood, the CrossPolo can be fitted with three different gas engines or the same number of diesels. Transmissions include a standard six-speed manual or VW/Audi's new seven-speed DSG. Only the not-yet-seen Polo sedan has been green-lit for the US at this point, and we suspect that even if other models and bodystyles are added, the CrossPolo would be pretty car down VWoA's list. Too bad, it's a neat little car.
