Ruf Introduces eRuf Stormster Electric SUV at COP15 Convention
Stuart Fowle
Ruf followers will remember that in October of 2008, the small manufacturer of cars based on current Porsche models debuted it's first electric car concept, called the eRuf. At Geneva last spring, a second one came along with the adorably cliche "Greenster" name. The company must be thinking of electricity in the form of lightning this time around, because round three gets the name "Stormster."
The Stormster, as you've already hopefully concluded, is based on a normal production Porsche Cayenne SUV. In place of the stock car's gas engine, however, the Stormster uses a Siemens-sourced electric motor, the same one used for its past electric concepts. The motor delivers an estimated 367 horsepower and is energized by lithium ion batteries provided by Li-Tec Battery Gmbh. Thanks to these additions, the Stormster weighs a very heavy 5886 pounds, which is actually not to far off from some stock SUVs including the Range Rover and the Chevy Tahoe. Despite the big power claim, the electric Ruf SUV runs to 62 mph in 10 seconds and tops out at 93 mph. What is impressive, though, is the truck's estimated 125 miles of range on a single charge.
Fittingly, Ruf chose this week to debut the Stormster because it'll be on display until December 18 at the European Climate Change Conference (COP15) in Copenhagen, Denmark.
