2010 Geneva Auto Show
The Geneva Motor Show has always been about elegance, sportiness, and craftsmanship; despite a shaky world economy, 2010 should be no exception. Alfa Romeo, for example, has commissioned not one, not two, but all three of the major Italian design firms (Stile Bertone, Pininfarina, and Giugiaro) to present their interpretations of how the next 159 series of cars should look. Rinspeed is back again with another oddball concept, but this one, the UC, is actually pretty down-to-earth. And we mustn't forget Jaguar's new special edition XK, a concept previewing the next Mercedes-Benz CLS, Bentley's droptop version of the Continental Supersports, or the stylish and less portly new-generation SUVs from Porsche and Volkswagen.
There's also a second side to the show this year, one that reflects the responsible spending that's returned to the world in the past year or two. Geneva is home to a whole series of small car debuts, including a few new Volkwagen Polo models, a new Ford C-Max, Mini's Countryman crossover, and more. Additionally, a few manufacturers will conceptualize an electrified future. See the Lotus Evora 414E hybrid and Opel's Flextreme GT/E for examples. Switzerland has always been a fair and neutral country, and it looks like this year's Geneva show will represent those balanced values as well.
